Evocative and mysterious, this beautifully patinated rug seems to embody secrets of the ages. It is a remarkably accurate representation of a 15th century masterwork from the caucasus (East Asia Minor), conserved in the Islamic Art collection of Berlin's National Museums. The original version is woven of tightly twisted woolen yarns richly pigmented in blue and red with cream and yellow. It depicts highly stylized figural designs of animals and birds amidst trees and flowers. Like the original, the modern interpretition is teeming with animal life in lapidary shades of turquoise and ruby, and is a true collector's piece.
