Skovby Furniture
A family-run Danish business renowned for its craftsmanship, simplicity, use of natural materials and furniture that’s both functional and beautiful, Skovby furniture is regarded as an ongoing global success story.
Founded in 1933 by cabinet maker Thorvald Rasmussen, the company is now run by the third generation of the family, grandsons Preben and Jorgen Rasmussen. The firm today has the same sustainability principles as it did 80-odd years ago, even though production is now carried out in factories (after two decades Rasmussen discovered it was necessary in order to keep up with the unrelenting demand for his products).
Initially renowned for their extending tables, today Skovby’s furniture also have an excellent reputation for their storage units, chairs and media units. Many of their range can be customised to suit particular preferences and styles, some of the designs are still big sellers after two decades. NORRA is one of the newer flexible modular systems to cause excitement between interior designers today.
Skovby Dining tables
Whether you’re looking for a smaller kitchen table or more of an extending dining table, here at Vale Furnishers we have Skovby dining furniture to fit the bill. Choose from a range of different sizes and a selection of up to 13 different finishes in fixed or extendable versions.
The SM20 Dining Table, for instance, can extend to five metres and seat up to 20 diners, thanks to three extension leaves which are stored in the table itself and a further three which can be added. It’s achieved by the fact the legs can be split to form further legs in order to support the additional table top length. The table is available in a whole host of veneered wood such as oak, beech, cherry, wenge, teak and walnut. The wood, in turn, can be finished via natural oil, lacquer or soaped.
Skovby Coffee tables
The Skovby coffee and side table selection is wide ranging. Some contain storage facilities and space for the remote control while others are fixed and built to simply look beautiful. The Skovby SM206 and SM207 coffee tables are definitely of the latter. Handmade in Denmark to match, they fit nicely together to form a very contemporary looking whole (with one slightly smaller than the other, fitting underneath to form the one larger coffee table). Produced in a selection of finishes, a scratch and heatproof table top coating can also be applied.
Skovby Dining Chair
Comfortable seating is a must if you’re going to be sitting around the table for hours on end while hosting a dinner party. But looks are important too – and this is where Skovby furniture really come into their own. Their chairs come in a variety of styles and finishes, such as 60 different fabrics and leather shades.
The rather quirky, contemporary and fun SM59 Dining Armchair has a brushed stainless steel frame sporting flared armrests while the seating is padded, curved at the back and wide in the seat. Whether you’re looking for storage with hinged or sliding doors, open shelving or divided drawers, Skovby have always known what they are doing in this respect.
