6 Stylish Lights to Brighten your Abode
Stylish lights can really make the difference between a good home and a great home. Give the lighting in your room statement status by investing in one of these incredible lighting designs today.
One of the most iconic pieces around today, this beautifully curving Flos Arco Floor Lamp (you may remember it from its first appearance in the early 1960s) adds more than a spot of sophistication to wherever it’s poised, as with all Flos lighting. In this case it boasts a stunning white Carrara marble base, stainless steel telescopic stem and an aluminium swivel reflector. Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, it was actually inspired by a street lamp.
Elegant and sophisticated, the origami lantern-style Andromeda Table Lamp by Caligaris delivers a beautifully balanced effect of shadow and light thanks to all those folds and counterfolds in its design (which resembles a ruffled collar of Tudor times). The base is matt-coated metal and the shade cotton. It’s available in four different shades – white, black, taupe, and air force blue.
The incredibly ‘now’ Ethnicraft UP Turtle Tube Lamp emits LED light through the splits in its base. A tall, thin and elegant structure, it doesn’t take up much space and yet certainly manages to create a statement. Available in both dark grey and white, it is produced from solid oak and painted metal. Ethnicraft use natural solid wood in its designs which concentrate on simplicity and allowing the texture and grain to show through.
Simple Scandinavian Chic
We’re not quite sure what to say about this second striking floor-standing light we’re about to introduce you to – apart from the fact that we love it. The BilliB Bubblegum Jupiter Light has two purposes; it’s a piece of artwork during the day then at night its purpose is to light up the room. Made from glass and with a 3D painted effect worked in with quality engineering, this Scandinavian floor lamp is an impressive sight wherever it sits.
Staying with the funky and unusual, these fabulous bottle style lamps are perfect for the kitchen or a dining room, we think. Quirky but elegant too, the Labware Pendant Lamps didn’t just please us – it also won the Blueprint Award for Best new Product for designer Benjamin Hubert. Produced from mouth-blown white opaque glass, the bottle has a hand-turned oak cork bark stopper from Portugal. These lamps are available in three different shapes – spherical, conical or cylinder – as well as a table lamp version.
What’s that you say – you’d like a table lamp with a vintage medicine bottle base? Certainly – just take a look at the Stoneware Old Medicine Table Lamp for starters. A reproduction of a genuine 1800’s American bottle it once held ‘Vapor Oil.’ Great for a shabby chic, country cottage or general vintage room interior. For those interested in a matching lamp, this range also features other Victorian reproduction bases such as a milk churn and a stoneware jar.
