Cattelan Italia coffee tables are often at their best when they are used as part of a group rather than as one large flat surface. Different heights, shapes and materials can be layered together to create a more flexible arrangement around the sofa while still giving the room a considered, design-led feel.
A group of smaller tables can be easier to live with than one substantial coffee table. One piece might stay beside the sofa with a lamp or plant, while another can be moved closer when you need somewhere for a drink, book or laptop.
Designs such as Sting illustrate this particularly well: the individual tables can sit together as a composition, but they remain useful in their own right and can be repositioned as the room is used.
Cattelan uses ceramic, glass, timber and distinctive brushed metal finishes across its occasional furniture. Combining different materials can add depth and texture, particularly where the tables sit alongside upholstery with a softer finish.
You do not need to match every piece to the dining furniture or sideboard. Picking up one related colour or metal tone can be enough to connect the room while still allowing each table to have its own character.
Before choosing the size, consider how close the table needs to sit to the sofa, how people move through the room and whether the furniture needs to be moved regularly. Several smaller pieces can often be easier to work around than one large table occupying the centre of the seating area.
