Cattelan Italia dining chairs have a distinctive design character and are often more generously proportioned than some of the other Italian seating ranges we carry. That extra presence can work particularly well alongside Cattelan's larger dining tables, but appearance should only be part of the decision.
A chair can look soft or substantial without necessarily giving the sit you expect, so we always recommend trying it properly. Sit back in it as you would over a meal, consider the support through the back and seat, and compare more than one design rather than deciding from photographs alone.
Where you are choosing several chairs for a large table, small differences in seat width and overall scale also add up. We generally allow around 60cm per person when planning Cattelan seating so the chairs have room to breathe rather than being squeezed together.
The table and chairs need to work as one setting. On Cattelan's larger fixed tables, substantial central bases can influence where people sit and how much usable legroom there is, so chair width, seat position and the shape of the table all matter.
If you already have a table in mind, we can compare different chairs around it at Ash Vale. If you are choosing the whole setting together, it is worth looking at our Cattelan Italia fixed dining tables at the same time rather than treating the two purchases separately.
Cattelan has its own recognisable design language, but we would not recommend its chairs simply because the table comes from the same collection. Comfort, proportions, finish and budget may point towards another manufacturer instead.
That is one of the advantages of comparing several Italian furniture ranges in the same showroom. You can try Cattelan alongside our wider dining chair collection and choose the combination that works best for you rather than feeling obliged to buy a matching set.
Once the chair itself is right, look at how the upholstery and frame finish relate to the table and the rest of the room. They do not have to match exactly. A slightly different texture, colour or metal finish can give the setting more depth while still feeling considered.
At Ash Vale we can work through Cattelan's wider chair collection using physical samples, catalogues and the brand's imaging tools, so if the design or finish you have seen is not currently displayed, talk to us and we can explore the available options with you.
