Pocket sprung mattresses with individual comfort for both of you
Our Millbrook mattress collection offers a simple choice of three British-made, no-turn pocket sprung mattresses, each available with Standard or Firmer comfort.
One of the biggest reasons we choose to display Millbrook at Vale Furnishers is the option to combine those two comfort levels within the same mattress. From double size upwards, one side can be Standard while the other is Firmer, allowing couples with different preferences to sleep together without one person having to compromise.
With prices starting at just over £1,000, Millbrook also provides a more accessible route into split-tension, British-made pocket sprung mattresses.
Choosing between the Distinction 1000, 2000 and 4000
The three mattresses in our collection have been selected to provide a clear progression in comfort and specification.
Distinction 1000
The Distinction 1000 is the starting point of our Millbrook collection.
Its 1,000 pocket springs are combined with spun cotton, two layers of wool and recycled soft white fibres. It has a particularly supportive feel, especially when tried in the Firmer comfort.
For someone looking for a straightforward, traditionally supportive pocket sprung mattress at a competitive price, it's an excellent place to start.
Distinction 2000
Moving up to the Distinction 2000 introduces an additional 1,000 micro springs above the main 1,000 seven-turn pocket springs.
These extra springs, together with layers of white cotton and a wool and silk blend, create a fuller and more forgiving feel on top of the underlying support.
This can be particularly noticeable if you like a firm mattress but don't necessarily want the sleeping surface itself to feel hard.
Distinction 4000
At the top of our selected collection is the Distinction 4000.
It combines 1,000 seven-turn pocket springs with a further 3,000 micro springs, alongside two layers of English-made spun cotton and a blend of Hampshire wool, silk and cashgora.
The additional layers create a softer, more luxurious surface while retaining the supportive spring tension beneath.
For side sleepers in particular, this extra cushioning can help the shoulders and hips settle more comfortably into the mattress, even when choosing the Firmer comfort.
Standard or Firmer – or both
Mattress tension is personal, and couples don't always agree.
Millbrook's split-tension construction allows us to order Standard comfort on one side and Firmer comfort on the other within the same mattress from double size upwards.
The fillings remain the same across both sides of the mattress. It is the different wire tension within the spring system that creates the different feel and level of support.
We find this particularly useful for couples who have quite different preferences, or when one person specifically wants a firmer-feeling mattress.
A tuft-free sleeping surface
All three of our Millbrook mattresses feature the brand's distinctive tuft-free sleeping surface.
Rather than having traditional tufts visible on the top of the mattress, Millbrook's internal tufting is pulled down and secured from underneath. This keeps the mattress fillings securely in place without leaving prominent tufts on the surface you sleep on.
For customers who find they can feel traditional mattress tufts beneath them, it's a small but worthwhile difference.
No need to turn
Our Distinction 1000, 2000 and 4000 mattresses are all no-turn designs.
A non-slip underside helps the mattress stay securely in position on its base, while the mattress only needs to be rotated rather than regularly turned over.
Try both comfort levels at Vale Furnishers
Specifications and spring counts can help explain how a mattress is constructed, but they can't tell you which one you'll find most comfortable.
We display all three Millbrook mattresses at our Ash Vale showroom, including Standard and Firmer comfort options, so you can lie on them and feel how the comfort changes as you move through the collection.
Our team has also visited Millbrook's factory in Southampton, giving us first-hand knowledge of how the mattresses are made and how they compare with the other British bed brands we display.
If you're looking for a supportive pocket sprung mattress, need different comfort levels on each side of the bed, or simply prefer a firmer feel, Millbrook is well worth trying.
