Occasional chairs are where Fama really stands out for us. These are often the pieces customers did not expect to buy: a chair spotted while walking around the showroom, tried on impulse and then found a place for at home.
They can sit alongside a sofa from another manufacturer, fill a corner that needs something more individual or add useful seating to a hallway, bedroom or open-plan room. The chair does not have to match the rest of the upholstery; quite often its strength is that it brings something different.
Fama's occasional chairs vary considerably in shape and proportion. Some offer a conventional fixed sit, while others add swivel movement or encourage a more relaxed way of sitting.
Models such as the Kylian work particularly well because of their proportions and arm support, while other designs create a more enveloping or informal seat. The differences are much easier to understand by sitting in the chairs than by comparing dimensions on a page.
We keep a broad and changing Fama display at Ash Vale and can access the wider catalogue as well. Having worked with the brand for close to 20 years, we are used to guiding customers through how different models sit even when every option is not physically displayed.
An occasional chair is one of the easiest places to be adventurous with Fama's fabrics. A bold pattern or stronger colour has less visual weight on a single chair than across a complete sofa, and customers regularly use these pieces to introduce something more expressive into the room.
On suitable models, different sections can be specified separately, allowing a patterned fabric to be combined with complementary plains. We generally find that two or three well-chosen fabrics create a more considered result than making every panel different.
Our Fama configurator lets us apply different fabrics to individual parts of a model, but we would always recommend seeing the physical sample before ordering. Colour changes with lighting and screens, while texture and pattern scale can only really be judged from the material itself.
You can also compare our broader occasional chair collection, or move into Fama reclining chairs if you want the chair to offer more movement.
