Choosing a Harrison Spinks pocket sprung mattress

Harrison Spinks offers a wide choice of pocket sprung mattresses, and while specifications and spring counts can be useful, they don't tell you which mattress will actually feel right.

Start with how the mattress feels

When helping someone choose a Harrison Spinks mattress, one of the first things we'll establish is the level of support and comfort they prefer.

Harrison offers different mattress tensions, but we don't think you should choose one simply because you've always had a firm mattress or assume that firmer automatically means more supportive.

Your sleeping position, build and personal preference all play a part.

The best way to find out is to lie down properly, in your normal sleeping position, and give your body time to settle into the mattress.

Performance Turn Free or Seasonal Turn?

One of the main choices within the Harrison Spinks collection is between Performance Turn Free and Seasonal Turn mattresses.

Performance Turn Free mattresses only need to be rotated rather than turned over. They're a practical choice if you want a traditionally constructed Harrison Spinks mattress without regularly having to lift and turn it.

Seasonal Turn mattresses are designed to be turned, with different natural fillings on each side selected for summer and winter use.

Neither is automatically the better mattress. We'll explain the differences and help you decide whether you value the seasonal construction of a turnable mattress or the convenience of a turn-free design.

Split tension can solve a very common problem for couples

Two people sharing a bed don't necessarily need the same mattress tension.

Selected Harrison Spinks mattresses can be made with a different tension on either side, allowing each person to choose the comfort that suits them rather than one partner having to compromise.

We find this particularly useful where there's a difference in bodyweight, sleeping position or simply what each person finds comfortable.

If you're considering split tension, we'd encourage both of you to come into the showroom and try the different tensions. It's a much better way to make the decision than guessing which side should be firmer.

Natural fillings are part of the Harrison Spinks feel

Harrison Spinks is well known for its use of natural materials alongside its pocket spring systems.

These fillings help create the breathable, traditionally upholstered feel that attracts many customers to the brand, while the individual pocket springs are designed to respond independently to the body.

As with any mattress, natural fillings will settle with use. This is a normal characteristic of traditionally upholstered mattresses rather than necessarily a sign that something is wrong.
