They can certainly be extremely useful for that, but increasingly we're seeing customers consider an adjustable bed simply because they like the additional comfort and flexibility it provides.

Being able to raise your head or legs can change the way you relax in bed, whether you're reading, watching television or simply trying to find a more comfortable sleeping position.

Choose the mattress as carefully as the mechanism

It's easy to concentrate on what an adjustable base can do and forget that you'll still spend every night sleeping on the mattress.

The mattress therefore matters just as much as the mechanism underneath it.

We'd recommend trying the bed both flat and adjusted. Spend some time in your normal sleeping position, then raise the head and legs and see how the mattress feels as the bed moves beneath you.

Think about how the bed will work for both of you

If two people are sharing an adjustable bed, it's worth thinking about whether you want to adjust together or independently.

Being able to alter each side separately can be particularly useful when one person likes to sit more upright, has different comfort requirements or simply goes to bed at a different time.
