Why pocket springs are such a popular choice
Pocket sprung mattresses are at the heart of the Highgrove collection and are a good choice for customers who want traditional mattress support combined with a comfortable, responsive feel.
Unlike springs that are joined together, individual pocket springs can respond independently as your weight moves across the mattress. This helps the mattress adapt to your body and can also reduce the amount of movement transferred from one side of the bed to the other.
For couples in particular, that independent support can make a noticeable difference.
Don't choose a mattress by spring count alone
Spring counts are useful when comparing mattresses, but a bigger number doesn't automatically mean a better or more comfortable mattress.
The size and arrangement of the springs, the upholstery above them and the overall construction of the mattress all contribute to how it feels.
As you move through the Highgrove collection, different specifications can change the level of support and comfort, but the mattress with the highest spring count isn't automatically the right mattress for you.
We'd much rather you lie on the different options and feel the difference for yourself.
Firmness and support aren't the same thing
This is one of the most useful distinctions to understand when buying a mattress.
A mattress can feel relatively soft while still supporting you properly, just as a very firm mattress isn't necessarily providing better support.
Your weight, body shape and normal sleeping position all influence what will feel right. Side sleepers often appreciate more cushioning around the shoulders and hips, while someone who sleeps predominantly on their back may prefer a different feel.
There's no single firmness that's right for everybody.
Give yourself enough time to try the mattress properly
Sitting on the edge of a mattress or lying on it for a few seconds won't tell you very much.
When you visit us, we'll encourage you to take your time, lie in your normal sleeping position and compare several mattresses.
If two of you are sharing the bed, try them together. The combined weight of two people can change how a mattress feels, and it's important that you're both comfortable with the choice.
Don't worry about spending too long on a bed in the showroom. A few extra minutes choosing it is insignificant compared with the years you'll spend sleeping on it.
Think about what you're getting as you move through the range
One of Highgrove's strengths is that it gives us several pocket sprung options at different price points.
Rather than simply moving up the range because one mattress has a bigger specification, we'll help you understand what actually changes and, more importantly, whether you can feel enough difference to justify spending more.
Sometimes the less expensive mattress will be the one you prefer. If it is, that's the one we'd rather sell you.
Compare Highgrove with other mattresses too
You don't have to choose a mattress in isolation.
With over 50 beds and mattresses on display in our Ash Vale showroom, you can try Highgrove alongside other manufacturers and different types of mattress.
That gives you something an online specification can't: the opportunity to find out what you actually find comfortable before you buy it.
