Think about what you actually need to store

Before choosing, consider what will go on the shelves. Books need different shelf space from photographs, plants or decorative pieces, and a bookcase that looks spacious when empty can fill surprisingly quickly. Check the overall height and width as well as the arrangement and usable size of the shelves.

Also think about where the bookcase will sit in the room and whether there are sockets, switches, radiators or other furniture to work around. Actona bookcases and shelving are delivered boxed by our own Vale team rather than fully assembled, so you will need to assemble the furniture at home.

Actona considers efficient packing and straightforward assembly as part of the overall design. From our experience, the instructions are clear and the fittings work as they should. With a taller piece, it is sensible to assemble it close to where it will be used rather than building it elsewhere and then trying to move it through the house.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions about securing furniture where required.
