Over 50 Beds on Display at Vale Furnishers
Choosing a new bed is incredibly personal. What feels wonderfully comfortable to one person can feel completely wrong to another, which is why we believe there is still no substitute for trying different beds properly.
At Vale Furnishers, we have over 50 beds on display in our Ash Vale showroom, with everything from great-value everyday beds through to some of the finest handmade beds available. Many can also be tried in different mattress tensions, giving you an even wider choice of comfort and support.
Our bed department brings together leading manufacturers including Vispring, Harrison Spinks, TEMPUR, Millbrook and Highgrove, allowing you to compare very different approaches to making a comfortable bed, all under one roof.
A Bed Department Built Around Choice
Having a large number of beds on display is useful, but it's the variety within that selection that really matters.
We don't want 50 beds that all feel broadly the same.
Our range includes traditional pocket-sprung mattresses, beds generously upholstered with natural fillings, different spring constructions and tensions, pressure-relieving TEMPUR mattresses and electrically adjustable beds. We also offer a wide selection of divan bases, storage options, bedsteads and headboards, allowing you to find the right combination for your bedroom as well as your comfort.
At one end of the selection, brands such as Highgrove provide excellent options when value is particularly important. Millbrook offers British-made pocket-sprung mattresses and beds, while Harrison Spinks and Vispring allow you to explore increasingly sophisticated spring systems and extensive use of natural materials. TEMPUR provides something completely different again, with its distinctive pressure-relieving mattress technology and range of adjustable bed systems.
Rather than deciding which sounds best on paper, you can come into the showroom and actually feel the differences for yourself.
Try Different Beds – Not Just Different Firmnesses
One of the most common starting points when choosing a mattress is whether you want something soft, medium or firm. It's useful information, but it only tells part of the story.
Different manufacturers construct their mattresses in very different ways. A medium mattress from one brand won't necessarily feel anything like a medium from another. Springs, fillings, upholstery, the number of layers and even the base underneath the mattress can all change how a bed responds when you lie on it.
Some of the beds in our showroom are therefore displayed in different tensions, so couples can also explore options where their individual comfort requirements aren't the same.
Our advice is simple: don't choose a mattress tension because you think it's the one you should have. Try it.
Take your coat and shoes off, lie in your normal sleeping position and give yourself enough time to decide whether you actually feel comfortable and properly supported.
Advice Based on Experience
With such a wide choice, our job isn't to show you every bed in the showroom. It's to understand what you're looking for and help narrow the selection down.
Our sales team has many years of experience helping customers choose beds, but their knowledge doesn't just come from the shop floor.
Members of our team have visited multiple bed and mattress factories, seeing first-hand how different manufacturers construct their products, make their springs, select and layer their fillings and build their mattresses and bases.
That experience gives us a much deeper understanding of the differences between the brands we sell and, importantly, why one construction might suit a particular customer better than another.
It's knowledge that's difficult to replicate by comparing specifications or reviews online.
The Mattress and Base Work Together
When buying a complete bed, it's important to consider the mattress and base as a combination.
Put exactly the same mattress onto different bases and you can change how it feels. A sprung divan base can provide additional cushioning, while a firmer platform base will create a different response.
That's why, wherever possible, we encourage customers to try the combination they're considering rather than choosing the mattress in isolation.
If you're replacing a mattress but planning to keep your existing base, we can also help you consider whether its age, condition and construction make it suitable for the new mattress.
Divan, Storage, Bedstead or Adjustable?
Once we've started to establish the comfort you're looking for, we can consider how you want the rest of the bed to work within your bedroom.
Divan beds remain an extremely practical choice and can be ordered with different base and storage configurations.
If storage is important, drawer divans and ottoman beds can make use of the otherwise wasted space underneath your mattress. Drawers offer easy everyday access, while an ottoman base can provide a much larger storage area.
If you prefer a more decorative bed, we also offer a choice of bedsteads and bed frames, allowing the bed itself to become a feature of the room.
And for customers looking for greater control over their sleeping or resting position, our adjustable beds allow different sections of the bed to be raised and lowered electronically. Modern adjustable beds can offer excellent comfort without looking clinical, with a choice of upholstered bases, headboards and fabrics available.
Beds for Main Bedrooms and Guest Rooms
Not every bed needs to fulfil the same brief.
If you're choosing a bed that you'll sleep on every night, comfort, support and longevity are likely to be the priorities. If it's for a spare bedroom, you may place more emphasis on value and finding a versatile comfort that will suit a variety of guests.
This is another advantage of having such a broad selection.
You don't have to spend at the top of our range to buy a good bed. We can show you the differences as you move through different price points and help you decide where spending more makes a meaningful difference for you – and where it doesn't.
Choosing the Right Size
A new bed is also a good opportunity to reconsider the size you're sleeping on.
If your bedroom has the space, moving to a larger bed can give two people considerably more room to sleep comfortably. We can talk you through the different standard bed sizes and help you consider the overall dimensions of the bed, including the headboard and frame where applicable.
Access is important too. Stairs, landings, doorways and awkward turns can all influence which base configurations will work in your home, and our experience delivering beds means we can help identify potential problems before delivery day.
Come and Try Them
You can learn an enormous amount about a bed online. You can research how it's made, compare spring counts, look at fillings and read about different technologies.
What a website can't tell you is how the bed will feel to you.
With over 50 beds on display at Vale Furnishers, you can compare different brands, mattress constructions, tensions, bases and price points in one visit.
We'll give you the time to try them properly, answer your questions and explain the differences where they're useful. And if a less expensive bed feels better to you than the one you originally came in to see, that's the bed we'd rather you bought.
Because ultimately, the right bed isn't the one with the longest specification. It's the one you're looking forward to getting into at the end of the day.
