Harrison Beds

Harrison Spinks has been making beds in Yorkshire for over 180 years, combining traditional bed-making skills with an unusually high level of control over the materials that go into its mattresses.

At Vale Furnishers, we've been selling Harrison Spinks for over 20 years. During that time, it has become an important part of our bed collection because of the choice it gives us when helping customers find the right mattress, rather than simply asking them to choose between soft, medium and firm.

Today, we have seven Harrison Spinks mattresses on display, alongside three luxury Somnus models, giving you the opportunity to try different constructions and comfort levels and understand what actually suits you.

A British bedmaker we know well

Our experience with Harrison Spinks goes beyond the beds we have on the showroom floor. Members of the Vale team have visited Harrison Spinks in Yorkshire and we've built up considerable experience of the range through more than two decades of selling it.

That matters when you're choosing a bed. Specifications and spring counts can tell you how a mattress is constructed, but they don't necessarily tell you which bed will suit the way you sleep.

Our role is to help make sense of those differences.

We can explain why two Harrison mattresses with apparently similar specifications can feel quite different, how the mattress and divan work together, and when features such as split tensions or different base constructions are genuinely worth considering.

Natural materials are at the heart of Harrison Spinks mattresses

One of the things that distinguishes Harrison Spinks is its approach to natural fillings.

The company grows and sources natural materials for its mattresses, including wool, and combines these with its own spring technology to create beds designed to provide support without relying heavily on synthetic foams.

For customers who particularly value natural fillings, breathability and traditional bed-making, Harrison Spinks is therefore a brand we think is well worth trying.

The important thing, however, is still how the mattress feels to you. Natural materials and sophisticated construction are valuable, but they don't remove the need to lie on several mattresses and compare them properly.

Turn Free or Seasonal Turn — two different approaches to comfort

Harrison Spinks gives you a genuine choice in how you look after your mattress.

Its Performance Turn Free mattresses are designed to be rotated rather than turned over, making them particularly appealing if you want the benefits of a traditionally constructed Harrison mattress without regularly lifting and turning it.

Its Seasonal Turn mattresses are designed to be turned, with different natural fillings on each side intended for summer and winter use.

Neither approach is automatically better. It is about deciding whether you value the additional seasonal construction of a turnable mattress or the convenience of a mattress that only needs rotating.

We can show you both in our Ash Vale showroom so you can compare the difference rather than making that decision from a specification online.

Different comfort on each side of the same bed

Split tension is one of the Harrison Spinks options we find particularly useful for couples.

If two people prefer different mattress tensions, selected Harrison mattresses can be made with a different tension on either side. It means one person doesn't necessarily have to compromise simply because their partner prefers a softer or firmer bed.

It's an option we regularly discuss with couples in the showroom, particularly where there is a noticeable difference in bodyweight, sleeping position or simply personal preference.

We'll help each of you try the appropriate tensions separately before deciding whether a split-tension mattress is the right solution.

The mattress is only part of the bed

Harrison Spinks also offers a wide choice of divan bases, headboards and storage options, allowing us to help you build the complete bed around your mattress.

The base can affect both the finished feel and practicality of your bed, while choices such as drawers or ottoman storage can make a significant difference where bedroom storage is limited.

There is also an extensive choice of upholstered headboards, including alternatives that can make access into more difficult bedrooms considerably easier.

We've covered these choices in more detail within our Harrison Divans, Headboards and Storage Beds sections, where we explain the differences and when we would recommend each option.

Try Harrison Spinks properly before you choose

With seven Harrison Spinks mattresses and three Somnus models on display, you don't have to choose your bed from a photograph or a list of specifications.

Come into our Ash Vale showroom and give yourself time to try them.

We recommend lying in your normal sleeping position rather than simply sitting on the edge of a mattress or lying down for a few seconds. We'll help you narrow the choice, but we'll also give you the time and space to decide what feels right.

After more than 20 years of selling Harrison Spinks, that's still the most important piece of advice we can give: the right mattress is the one that works for you.

More importantly, we can help you make sense of the choices.

We'll talk about what you're sleeping on now, what you like or dislike about it, how you normally sleep and whether two people need different things from the same bed. Then we'll let you try the options and compare them properly.

After all the springs, fillings and specifications have been explained, the final decision is usually much simpler:

Which bed do you actually feel most comfortable on?
