Sofa Beds

Make More of Your Spare Room

A sofa bed is one of the simplest ways to make your home work harder, particularly if you are rethinking how you use a spare bedroom.

As families grow up and children move out, a bedroom that was once used every day might become a home office, dressing room, hobby room or somewhere to exercise. But that doesn't mean you want to lose the flexibility of having somewhere comfortable for family and friends to stay.

A good sofa bed gives you the best of both. You have an attractive and useful piece of furniture for the way you use the room most of the time, while still having a proper sleeping space when the children come home or the house fills up at Christmas.

Around 10 Sofa Beds to Try in Our Showroom

At Vale Furnishers, we tend to have around 10 sofa beds on display in our Ash Vale showroom. The individual models change as new collections are introduced, but we maintain a good core selection for you to see, sit on and, importantly, open and try for yourself.

Rather than tying ourselves to one manufacturer, we select sofa beds from a number of our supplier partners, alongside designs from Fama.

This gives us the freedom to choose what we believe are the best options at different price and style levels – from more compact and affordable designs with a carefully selected choice of finishes, through to European-made models offering extensive choices of fabrics, leathers, arm styles and configurations.

A Sofa Bed Should Still Provide a Good Night's Sleep

We've probably all experienced a sofa bed that wasn't particularly enjoyable to sleep on.

That's why our selection isn't focused on finding the cheapest sofa bed we can offer. We look for good-quality sleeping surfaces and well-designed mechanisms that we'd be happy for our own family and friends to sleep on.

There are still different price points within the collection, but whichever end of the range you're considering, we want it to be a sofa bed that properly fulfils its purpose when your guests come to stay.

Come In and See How They Work

One of the biggest advantages of choosing a sofa bed in our showroom is that you don't have to work out from photographs how a mechanism operates.

Our team can demonstrate the different actions and let you try them yourself. Some designs simply roll forward, with the cushions remaining attached as the bed opens. Others have sections that slide out and lift into position.

Whichever type suits you, we'll make sure you know exactly how it works before it arrives at home. When guests turn up, getting their bed ready shouldn't involve hunting for the instruction manual.

Sofa Comfort Versus Sofa Bed Comfort

It's also worth being realistic about how a sofa bed will feel to sit on.

Adding a bed mechanism means replacing some of the webbing or spring system you would normally find underneath the seat of a standard sofa. As a result, a sofa bed will generally feel firmer than the equivalent fixed sofa.

For many of our customers, that isn't a problem. The sofa may be going into a dressing room where it's somewhere to sit while getting ready, or into a study where it provides a comfortable place to take a break rather than being the sofa you spend an entire evening watching television on.

We'll explain those differences rather than pretend they don't exist. And because you can compare different models in the showroom, you can decide for yourself which gives you the right balance between sitting comfort, sleeping comfort and practicality.

Tell Us About the Room You're Creating

We find the best place to start isn't necessarily with the sofa bed. It's with the room.

Tell us what you're changing, how you want to use the space most of the time and who is likely to sleep there. Our experienced team can then help you explore the different sizes, mechanisms, styles and sleeping options that might work.

And if the sofa bed is only one part of a bigger change, we can help with that too. With bedroom furniture, occasional furniture, rugs and accessories all available in our showroom, you can consider the room as a whole rather than choosing each piece in isolation.

Sometimes it's those finishing touches that turn a newly repurposed room into a space you really enjoy using.
