Start with your room, not the furniture catalogue

Many customers looking for a new dining table are actually working on a bigger project: an extension, a new kitchen or an open-plan living space. Start by thinking about how the room needs to work every day, how many people normally sit at the table and how much space you want around it. Occasional extra seating can then be considered through an extending dining table rather than allowing larger gatherings to dictate the size you live with all year.

Calligaris is particularly good at giving you options once those practical requirements are clear. Alongside compact four-legged tables are larger pedestal designs, different shapes and a broad selection of finishes. Its wider collection means dining chairs, bar stools, sideboards, occasional furniture and upholstery can also be coordinated across an open-plan room without everything having to form a matching suite.

Compare the details that are difficult to judge online

An extending table can look much like another in a photograph, but the smoothness and simplicity of the mechanism become much clearer when you operate it yourself. Finishes are similar: larger fabric and ceramic samples make it easier to judge colour, texture and details such as matt or gloss surfaces than relying on a screen.

Build the room rather than a matching suite

Calligaris offers extensive choices of upholstery, frame colours, ceramics and other finishes. Staying within the collection can be useful when you want an exact finish to carry from a table into chairs or a sideboard, but it does not mean every piece needs to be Calligaris. We can move chairs, tables and occasional pieces together and compare them with furniture from other makers so the final combination is chosen for the room and the people using it.
