Start with the dining table and the space around it

Dining tables are one of Cattelan Italia's particular strengths. Many of the designs work especially well in a dedicated dining area where there is room for a generous fixed table and comfortable circulation around it. On larger tables, the width, shape of the top and position of the central base all affect how people sit and interact, so it is worth considering the whole dining setting rather than choosing from length alone.

We generally allow around 60cm per person when planning Cattelan seating, giving the often more generously proportioned chairs some breathing space rather than trying to fit the maximum possible number around the table. A shaped top can also be useful on a long table, softening the sides and helping preserve sight lines between people seated along its length.

Ceramic is an important part of the Cattelan collection, particularly across its dining and occasional furniture. Small online swatches can only tell you so much about a surface with movement and pattern, so at Ash Vale we have much larger physical samples that give a better impression of the colour, finish and overall character of the material.

We can combine those samples with Cattelan's imaging portal in our showroom, changing finishes and combinations on screen while you have the physical materials in front of you. It is particularly useful when you like a table or other piece but need help visualising how a different top and base combination will work together.

Use the wider collection rather than limiting the choice to our website

The Cattelan furniture shown online is only part of the collection we can supply. Our team works with the wider Cattelan range, including dining furniture, occasional pieces, storage and upholstery, so if you have found a particular model elsewhere or have a specific finish in mind, talk to us rather than assuming that the website represents the limit of the choice.

Our experience also extends beyond the pieces currently on display. Members of the Vale team have visited Cattelan in Italy and seen the collection at international furniture and design shows, while years of working through changing displays, catalogues and customer orders give us useful knowledge of both current and previous designs.

Build the room around the right pieces, not a matching set

Choosing a Cattelan table does not mean the chairs, sideboard and occasional furniture all need to come from the same manufacturer. We can compare Cattelan seating with our wider dining chair collection where another design gives you the comfort, proportions, appearance or budget you prefer.

The same applies elsewhere in the room. A Cattelan sideboard can work as a statement piece in its own right, while mirrors, lighting and occasional tables can introduce related metal, ceramic and other finishes more subtly. Smaller tables can also be layered at different heights and in different materials rather than relying on one large flat surface.
