Mattresses Memory Foam

What is a memory-foam mattress?

Memory foam is a pressure-relieving material that responds to your body’s warmth and weight. Rather than pushing back against you in the same way as some traditional mattress fillings, it gently shapes around your body to spread your weight more evenly.

This can help reduce pressure around areas such as your shoulders and hips while giving your body a more supported, settled feeling. As you move or get out of bed, the foam gradually returns to its original shape.

Different types of memory-foam mattress

Not every memory-foam mattress feels the same. The depth and density of the foam, the layers beneath it and whether it is combined with springs can all change the comfort and support it provides.

Some mattresses give you the deeper, body-contouring sensation traditionally associated with memory foam. Others feel easier to move around on or combine foam with a pocket-spring system for a more familiar mattress feel.

Memory-foam mattresses at Vale Furnishers

Tempur is our principal memory-foam mattress supplier and gives us a wide choice of different comfort feels and mattress depths. We also select memory-foam mattresses from other manufacturers, including Highgrove, although the individual models change over time.

Having these different options available in our Ash Vale showroom means you can compare how each construction feels rather than choosing from a specification alone.

Helpful advice without the jargon

Our team can explain the differences between the materials, depths and support systems in straightforward terms. We will also help you consider practical points such as ease of movement, temperature and the type of bed base beneath the mattress.

The aim is not simply to sell you a memory-foam mattress. It is to help you decide whether memory foam is right for you and, if it is, which particular feel suits you best.

Mark’s advice

Give yourself time when trying a memory-foam mattress. Lie in your normal sleeping position for several minutes so the material has an opportunity to respond to your body.

You may also find memory foam warmer than a traditionally upholstered mattress. If that is the case, using a lower-tog duvet can often make a considerable difference to your overall sleeping temperature.
