When comparing Westex carpets, start with what the room needs rather than assuming the thickest or most expensive option will be the best choice. Fibre, construction, pile length, traffic levels and the feel you want underfoot all matter, and getting those decisions right first makes the extensive Westex colour choice much easier to navigate.
Wool is not simply about softness. A good quality wool carpet is naturally resilient and can retain its appearance well, which is one reason we regularly discuss it for halls, stairs, landings and living rooms. Many Westex twist carpets combine wool with nylon to add further toughness, while 100% wool is found across a number of its other constructions.
An open fire or log burner is another reason to discuss fibre choice. Wool behaves differently around heat and stray embers from synthetic carpet fibres, which can melt, so tell us if the carpet is going into a room with either.
Some Westex ranges are offered in several pile qualities. As the pile becomes longer and plusher it can give a noticeably more luxurious feel underfoot, which may be exactly what you want in a bedroom. On stairs or in another heavily used area, a shorter pile can be the more practical choice. We would rather help you choose the appropriate quality than automatically steer you towards the highest specification.
Many Westex carpets are available in five widths, with the colours matched between them. This becomes particularly useful when carpeting several rooms. Our estimator can plan different widths around the dimensions of each space, which can reduce waste and give more flexibility over where a seam needs to fall rather than calculating the whole job from one standard roll width.
Westex applies Stain Resist, Moth Guard, Fresh Guard and Allergy Guard treatments to its carpets. Moth protection is particularly relevant to customers choosing wool, especially if they have experienced carpet moths previously. Stain resistance is useful too, but resistant does not mean stain-proof, so spills still need to be dealt with correctly.
Underlay affects how a carpet feels and performs, so we do not regard it as an afterthought. We can compare different underlays with the carpet and recommend an appropriate combination for the room. If you have underfloor heating, tell us before choosing: we can check the tog ratings of the carpet and underlay together against the requirements of your heating system.
A flooring estimate involves more than recording room dimensions. Widths, pile direction, joins, stairs and landings, repeats where applicable and the most economical use of the carpet all need to be considered. Planning those details before ordering helps us work out both how much carpet is required and how it should be fitted.
The Westex products shown online are only part of the range we can offer. Visit our Ash Vale flooring department to compare a much broader selection, or narrow the choice by looking specifically at Westex loop pile carpets and Westex plain carpets.
